Pendulum summoning

The ins and outs to Pendulum summoning

                                                     By (akatsuki)Sasori.

Alright everyone, so considering how new pendulum summoning is I decided to take the liberty of writing this out for all the clan members to avoid you needing to search god knows where in order to learn how to pendulum summon and how to counter them.

So first thing to note is that Pendulum monsters are considered spell cards when in the pendulum zone, and monster cards when in the monster zone. If you look at their effect’s there are 2 different sections. The top effect is what’s applies while its in the pendulum zone and the bottom effect is what’s applied while its in the monster zone.

Second thing to note is that when you place a pendulum monster in the pendulum zone it is considered activating a spell card, so this can be negated by cards like magic jammer or dark bribe , etc. Also while in the pendulum zone it is treated as a spell card and can be destroyed by cards like MST. People ask me if you can veiler a pendulum monster in the pendulum zone, or negate it with cards like breakthrough skill. This is not possible as they are considered spell cards while in the pendulum zone, and last I checked it was not possible to veiler a continuous spell card (they are not treated as continuous spell cards however, to avoid confusion). You can however use cards like breakthrough skill or veiler on them while they are considered monsters and in the monster zone.

Third thing to note, You cannot activate a pendulum monster from your hand if you already have both zones occupied. You cannot activate one over the other like you can with field spell cards. On that note, when a pendulum monster would be sent to the graveyard (either in the pendulum zone while treated as a spell or in the monster zone and treated as a monster) They are sent Face up to your extra deck, not the graveyard. This however does not apply if it is sent from your hand, main deck, has its activation as a spell card negated or is detached as an XYZ material, under these circumstances it will be sent to the graveyard normally.

Next thing to note is the blue and red gems shown in the card with numbers under them, These are their pendulum levels. The blue gem represents the left pendulum zone and is applied while its in the left pendulum zone. The red gem represents the right pendulum zone and is applied while its in the right pendulum zone. So lets assume we have a pendulum monster in the left pendulum zone whose blue gem gives the level “1” and a pendulum monster in the right pendulum zone whose red gem gives the level “8” this makes our pendulum scale 1-8 and allows us to pendulum summon monsters whose level is in between these numbers, so we can pendulum summon monsters from the level 2-7

IMPORTANT: It is very important that people know this, as it is a common mistake and I don't want you guys to get rule sharked. The pendulum scale only counts from left to right, so if you were to place them as 8-1 instead of 1-8 nothing will happen since the scale will be out of balance. You must always have the lowest blue on the left and the highest red on the right, for your pendulum summon to work.

Now that we have finished what you need to know about pendulum summoning let's actually talk about HOW you pendulum summon. You can pendulum summon once per turn if you have 2 pendulum cards in your pendulum zones who balance the scale and allow you to summon (for example 1-8) now you can pendulum summon as many monsters as you want, but only once per turn, and you can summon them from your hand or from face up from your extra deck. So lets say I wanted to pendulum summon 3 monsters, 1 from hand and 2 from my face up extra deck. So I will summon a level 6 monster from my hand and 2 level 7 monsters from my extra deck (note you cannot special summon random synchro monster this way as it only allows you to pendulum summon monster who are FACE UP in your extra deck) As I said before you can only pendulum summon once per turn, so its important you get what you want out at once because you won't get an opportunity again that turn.

And that’s all you need to know about pendulum summoning. I hope this post has helped a lot of you and if you have any questions feel free to message me (akatsuki)sasori. or make a post about it. Happy pendulum summoning everyone!!!
